Best times to visit from a cruise ship
Your available time ashore matters more than a colour on the calendar. Once disembarkation is complete, an early practical departure for Ephesus may help you use the port window efficiently. A later visit or a different sightseeing order may work on a longer call, but neither approach guarantees lighter crowds.
On higher-pressure dates, confirm the meeting point, gate and return arrangement in advance. Leave optional stops flexible. A Calm rating does not mean an empty site: this score does not include land-based visitors or actual tour-group movements.

Methodology: Pressure Score and Pressure Level
Pressure Score = Ship Count Score + Capacity Reference Score + Arrival Overlap Bonus. This is Port Day Insider’s transparent editorial planning method, not an official Ege Port rating or a forecast validated against measured Ephesus crowds.
1. Count scheduled arrivals
1 ship = 1 point; 2 ships = 3; 3 ships = 5; 4 or more ships = 7. Each call is counted on its official arrival date only. Departure dates are retained for overnight calls. Ships remaining from a previous day are not counted again, so the indicator does not represent every ship present in port.
2. Add published ship-capacity references
Below 2,000 = 1 point; 2,000–4,999 = 2; 5,000–7,999 = 3; 8,000–11,999 = 4; 12,000 or more = 5. The references use different definitions, including maximum capacity, guest capacity and double occupancy. Their sum is an approximate planning input, not a standardized maximum or measured passenger total.
Primary operator and shipbuilder references are preferred. Carried-forward references and secondary sources are labelled beside the calls. Celebrity Eclipse’s 2,850 remains a secondary Travel Weekly reference, with a primary-source recheck pending.
3. Check the 90-minute arrival overlap
Add 2 points once if any two arrivals on the same date are no more than 90 minutes apart. Exactly 90 minutes and identical arrival times qualify. Otherwise add 0. More pairs do not earn additional points. This checks scheduled arrival timing, not when tours reach Ephesus.
4. Assign the pressure band
2–4 = Calm; 5–7 = Moderate; 8–10 = Busy; 11 or more = Very Busy. For example, 12 October has four arrivals and a 6,953 published capacity reference total, with arrival overlap: 7 + 3 + 2 = 12 (Very Busy). None of these figures is an actual passenger or Ephesus visitor count.
